DOES YOUR WURLITZER HAVE A KICK STARTER?

January 22, 2010

After my last dreary post “THE DAY THE MUSIC DIED” a little pick me up was needed and as he often does Juan Cole provided the boost I needed.  He asks a really simple question Does this Supreme Court decision on corporate campaign money really have much of an impact in the Multi-Media communications network we enjoy today?  The answer , probably not, we have way too many choices  to watch any particular piece that is of interest to us.  It has already gotten amusing at times, when a piece surfaces that they didn’t want us to see so the rip it down, generally it’s too late, somebody has already archived it and it has surfaced for everyone to see.

Juan points out that this does make Net Neutrality a very important policy to maintain.  If they should ever find a nice little Supreme Court way of allowing corporations to control net content then we would really be in trouble.  So vigilance is a must.

HOW WE GOT HERE AND NOW’S THE TIME

December 17, 2009

THE WORDS BELOW ARE FROM A THOM HARTMANN OP ED.  Read the rest of the OPED here.  THIS IS ANOTHER OF THE TIGER’S YA GOTTA READ PIECES.

First they came for the banksters, and showered them with money and put them in the Administration in a way that was not change we could believe in.

Then they came for the military industrial complex, and sent more and more of our children to die in faraway lands that had never attacked us in a way that was not change we could believe in.

And now they’ve sold out our hope for a national health care system not run by millionaire gangsters in suits.  And who is left to speak for us?

EVERYTHING YOU HAVE BEEN TOLD ABOUT FAMILY ECONOMICS IS PROPAGANDA

December 13, 2009

On this blog in the past few years I’ve complained about the Powers That Be blaming us consumers for the hole we are in, and I have said they needed to point that finger standing in front of a mirror to see the culprit.  In this presentation by Elizabeth Warren at Berkley the 7th of December she presents hard numbers of exactly what has happened to her average American family since 1970.  This is a one hour presentation and I’ll guarantee it will be the best hour you have ever invested to enlighten your understanding of what has happened to us.  Warren’s typical family is a family of 4, two parents, two children.  She walks you through the changes that have happened  in the almost 40 year time frame she has looked at.  WATCH THIS, YOU MUST!!!

To see the graphs better here’s a post by Budget 360

Budget 360 lays out survival on$ 46, 000 income

Budget 360 lays out living on $100,000 in California

While you may find some holes and disagree with some in these budgets they do give you a basis for comparison to your plight and prove to you it’s not your math that’s bad it’s your income.

Warren closes with the startling fact that in 1970 her typical family spent 55% of its income on fixed payments, houses , cars, insurance, etc,  vs today for the same items 74% of income goes to that category and that’s with two people in the workforce, should a parent, a child, a relative get sick requiring care by a wage owner  they are going to lose their home, car and probably their insurance as well. Or if    one should lose their job, the family is bankrupt.

So after all this if you have done your homework you now understand what has caused this mess and aren’t you glad it ain’t our fault.  One thing to keep in mind these are middle class people she is talking about, she also closes by reminding you in the Middle Class is hurting, what about the Poor Class???

ARE AMERICANS BROKEN?  Bruce  Levine a clinical psychologist says we are suffering from “ABUSE SYNDROME”  take the time to read this article , I hope you will get as angry as I did reading it.  I believe he is totally wrong and know the “MUSHROOM SYNDROME ”  if it bit him on the ass.  We are suffering from having been fed 30 years of Free Market bullshit and they have kept the lights out by using our MSM with all their talking heads spreading the crap about the  How wonderful Free Market System will make us all rich.

Ross Perot knew and told us, we chose to think he was a nutjob.  How do you fell now???

Matt Taibbi and I want Elizabeth Warren for President, hell I might appoint her dictator, it might be the only way to save us.

Finally someone has written a milder description of the future we face instead of “OH MY GOD WERE ALL GOING TO DIE TOMORROW”  he actually says the changes will be gradual (if were lucky) instead of Big Bang like.  The part that most of us already know is that there is damn little being done about it and instead we keep focusing on the growth model for the whole world.  His new revision to  GEO DESTINIES  will be out soon in which he will address the slow decline of available natural resources and how we can stumble through it to survival.

CHINA WILL NOT BE THE NEXT BIG DOG ON THE BLOCK! You read it here first.  I have come to the conclusion that China has already seen it day in the sun and it is downhill for them now.  Lots of factors enter into this call but I will focus here on just the internal problems they have with resources.  They have a huge water problem and being in drought doesn’t help .  A lot of their water is undrinkable and most of their rivers are dead (no life forms)  and they run so heavy with silt that new dams have a useful life of 30 years.  Their air is next to unbreathable now and they are putting into service 1 coal-fired power plant a week with no pollution control on the stacks.  They are already closing factories by the score and their export numbers have fallen by 25% and will fall more as economic problems deteriorate.   They depend on imported oil (and we know where that is going) they are already buying their own car production and storing them in huge lots.  The US is their biggest customer with our economy being 8 times the size of theirs, as we enter the next depression their exports will tank, creating huge social problems for them as people are put out of work, driven back to the countryside where life will be very hard.  They will have little time for becoming a world power they will be battling to keep their selves in power.

HERE HE IS

KRAUTHAMMER AS GOD- A RIGHT WING SPAM-ANSWERED

October 23, 2009

I just couldn’t let this pass without comment.  I tried honestly!  This is being circulated as a spam operation by right wing think tanks singing the praises of Dr. Krauthammer, you have seen him many times as a far right talking head all over TV land.  True I didn’t know he was paralysed,  and I surely didn’t know he got that way by diving into an empty swimming pool. I don’t know how that fact makes him any more acceptable to me.  Any way here are my replies to their 11 points.

Pretty scary stuff.

I have listened to this wise man on Fox for some time.  This is not new news about which he writes; BUT I had no idea that he was paralyzed from the neck down.. or that he was an MD and a lawyer.  Amazing !

Dr. Charles Krauthammer

Dr. Krauthammer is on Fox News. He is an M.D. and a lawyer and is paralyzed from the neck down.  A friend went to hear Charles Krauthammer. He listened with 25 others in a closed room. What he says here, is NOT 2nd-hand but 1st. The ramifications are staggering for us, our children and their children.

Last Monday was a profound evening, Dr. Charles Krauthammer spoke to the Center for the American Experiment. He is a brilliant intellectual, seasoned & articulate. He is forthright and careful in his analysis, and never resorts to emotions or personal insults. He is NOT a fear monger nor an extremist in his comments and views . He is a fiscal conservative, and has received a Pulitzer Prize for writing. He is a frequent contributor to Fox News and writes weekly for the Washington Post.

The entire room was held spellbound during his talk. I have summarized his comments, as we are living in uncharted waters economically and internationally.  Even 2 Dems at my table agreed with everything he said! If you feel like forwarding this to those who are open minded and have not drunk the Kool-Aid, feel free.

My Comments:

What being paralysed has to do with what he says is just a ploy to get sympathy in the game. They didn’t mention of course that he got paralysed during his freshman year at Harvard diving into an empty swimming pool.

Summary of his comments:

1. Mr. Obama is a very intellectual, charming individual. He is not to be underestimated. He is a cool customer who doesn’t show his emotions. It’s very hard to know what’s behind the mask. The taking down of the Clinton dynasty was an amazing accomplishment. The Clintons still do not understand what hit them. Obama was in the perfect place at the perfect time.

Amazing ? Perhaps , but it might have been being smart enough to take advantage of Howard Dean’s 50 state strategy. Used the internet to organize on his own. The biggest boost to his campaign was how bad a campaign Hillary and the DLC ran.

2. Obama has political skills comparable to Reagan and Clinton . He has a way of making you think he’s on your side, agreeing with your position, while doing the opposite. Pay no attention to what he SAYS; rather, watch what he DOES!

Doesn’t that apply to every politician?

3. Obama has a ruthless quest for power. He did not come to Washington to make something out of himself, but rather to change everything, including dismantling capitalism. He can’t be straightforward on his ambitions, as the public would not go along.

He has a heavy hand, and wants to level the playing field with income redistribution and punishment to the achievers of society. He would like to model the USA to Great Britain or Canada .

Capitalism was being destroyed for 30 years prior to Obama getting there. Believers in Free Market Economics as preached by Milton Friedman and practised by all presidents from Regan on (yes including Clinton) had set into motion the destruction of the American Middle Class. When they catch a crook and they still have the money they take the money away. Income needs to be shared by all not only the very few at the top. A Robin Hood would be nice, he could steal back from the rich who stole it from us (and it was stolen) and redistribute it to the Middle Class where it was stolen in in the first place. Think outsourcing, downsizing, contract breaking, Walmartization of the country.

4. His three main goals are to control ENERGY, PUBLIC EDUCATION, and NATIONAL HEALTHCARE by the Federal government. He doesn’t care about the auto or financial services industries, but got them as an early bonus. The cap and trade will add costs to everything and stifle growth. Paying for FREE college education is his goal. Most scary is his healthcare program, because if you make it FREE and add 46,000,000 people to a Medicare-type single-payer system, the costs will go through the roof. The only way to control costs is with massive RATIONING of services, like in Canada .
God forbid!

OH GOOD GOLLY MISS MOLLY

He wants to provide health care to all citizens and this is scary. There is no other way to say this the right wing scare tactics on health care are straight out lies. Every other industrial nation has some kind of universal care and it doesn’t bankrupt them, there are no waits in any of these countries for serious problems. Want a face lift, yeah you might have to wait. The CBO estimates say that a universal care program is the only way you can bring the budget deficit under control.

Free college, a sacrilege ! According to them it is. Most of the European nations that have universal health care also have free education up to and including a Doctorate degree.

Their argument of controlling education is laughable. They are the ones who doctor text books (because they are edited in Texas) that great liberal state. Where they alter history by taking out mention some of the great Americans including some of the founding fathers and add back in their own greats like Rush Limbaugh. They remove all reference of any fossil record prior to 6000 years ago because they dispute the Theory of Evolution. I’m actually surprised they oppose Obama on education because the model proposed by Obama’s Sec. Of Education is a union busting give away to more private corporations.

Cap and Trade will add costs no doubt and I don’t like cap and trade but for a different reason. There should be no trade, clean up your act or get shut down. Will that limit growth, could be, but it might also kick start a whole new industry supporting clean production of everything. In my opinion Cap and Trade are just another opportunity for derivative Ponzi schemes.

5. He has surrounded himself with mostly far-left academic types. No one around him has ever even run a candy store. But they are going to try and run the auto, financial, banking and other industries. This obviously can’t work in the long run. Obama is not a socialist; rather he’s a far-left secular progressive bent on nothing short of revolution. He ran as a moderate, but will govern from the hard left. Again, watch what he does, not what he says.

Damn! I wish this part was actually true, but Obama is anything buy far left. Oh no , he has surrounded himself with academics, how exactly is that worse than surrounding yourself with proven idiots. None of his folks have ever run a candy store, geez I hope not this is a country not a candy store. The last president never ran a successful business on his own, daddies little Arab friends bailed him out of every one of his oil ventures. Mr. Bush was nothing more than a deserter during a war. True it was only the National Guard and the right might try to cop out that way, but a not too gentle reminder, how many National Guard have died in Iraq.

Those that surrounded Bush demonstrated just how brilliant they were, didn’t they? They brought us to the brink of the Second Great Depression and then handed it off to Obama, who probably won’t be able to save us. They violated the Constitution, the Geneva Convention (don’t feed me the crap that it was certified legal by Justice) it was illegal and shaming and any military man who backs their doings needs to go get captured and experience a little water boarding of his own. The right can modify history all they want but their Free Market ventures have screwed up for decades to come.
6. Obama doesn’t really see himself as President of the United States , but more as a ruler over the world. He sees himself above it all, trying to orchestrate & coordinate various countries and their agendas. He sees moral equivalency in all cultures. His apology tour in Germany and England was a prime example of how he sees America , as an imperialist nation that has been arrogant, rather than a great noble nation that has at times made errors. This is the first President ever who has chastised our allies and appeased our enemies!

At times made errors! You mean by lying us into war with Iraq? Of I forgot he went and talked to other Nations some who were on Bush’s bad guy list (Oh wait , everybody was on that list) The Bush regime reminds me a lot of the school yard bullies from my school days, really bad asses till  you turned them around and smacked their dumb asses with a baseball bat. You mean things like privatizing the supporting forces for our military and producing things like $400 a gallon gas in Afghanistan.

7. He is now handing out goodies. He hopes that the bill (and pain) will not come due until after he is reelected in 2012. He would like to blame all problems on Bush from the past, and hopefully his successor in the future. He has a huge ego, and Dr. Krauthammer believes he is a narcissist.

This said by a right wing that tripled the national debt while they had the reins. Huge ego, you mean like Bush and Cheney who believed and said they were the law and no laws applied to them. Toke up Dr. Krauthammer you could use a little new perspective on what happened when you guys were driving.

8. Republicans are in the wilderness for a while, but will emerge strong. Republicans are pining for another Reagan, but there will never be another like him. Krauthammer believes Mitt Romney, Tim Pawlenty & Bobby Jindahl (except for his terrible speech in February) are the future of the party. Newt Gingrich is brilliant, but has baggage. Sarah Palin is sincere and intelligent, but needs to really be seriously boning up on facts and info if she is to be a serious candidate in the future. We need to return to the party of lower taxes, smaller government, personal responsibility, strong national defense, and state’s rights.

Krauthammer believes Mitt Romney, Tim Pawlenty & Bobby Jindahl (except for his terrible speech in February) are the future of the party, and that Sarah Palin is brilliant and all along I though she was just a quitter. The names mentioned above are the best they have in their minds. Come on with any of them doctor and someone (it may not be the democrats) will kick your asses back places lower than you are now.

9. The current level of spending is irresponsible and outrageous. We are spending trillions that we don’t have. This could lead to hyperinflation, depression or worse. No country has ever spent themselves into prosperity. The media is giving Obama, Reid and Pelosi a pass because they love their agenda. But eventually the bill will come due and people will realize the huge bailouts didn’t work, nor will the stimulus package. These were trillion-dollar payoffs to Obama’s allies, unions and the Congress to placate the left, so he can get support for #4 above.

I agree the levels of spending are crazy, most brought about by the fiscal irresponsibility of the past 30 years. By all means insert the unions in the argument (those dirty ole unions) you love to bust and a whole 7% of the work force. You guys really need to get a new string of ponies this ole stuff is worn out like you ideas.

10. The election was over in mid-September when Lehman brothers failed, fear and panic swept in, we had an unpopular President, and the war was grinding on indefinitely without a clear outcome. The people are in pain, and the mantra of change caused people to act emotionally. Any Dem would have won this election; it was surprising it was as close as it was.

Considering that the last two elections were won in the programming booth and the Supreme Court , voting for change seemed like a good idea. Act emotionally , more like hatred of the last bunch.

11. In 2012, if the unemployment rate is over 10%, Republicans will be swept back into power. If it’s under 8%, the Dems continue to roll. If it’s between 8-10%, it will be a dogfight. It will all be about the economy. I hope this gets you really thinking about what’s happening in Washington and Congress. There is a left-wing revolution going  on, according to Krauthammer, and he encourages us to keep the faith and join the loyal resistance. The work will be hard, but we’re right on most issues and can reclaim our country, before it’s far too late.

Do yourself a long term favor, send this to all who will listen to an intelligent assessment of the big picture. All our futures and children’s futures depend on our good understanding of what is really going on in DC, and our action pursuant to that understanding!! It really IS up to each of us to take individual action!! Start with educating your friends and neighbors!!!

Unemployment could be and today is a lot higher than the 12% mentioned , counted correctly it is about 22% today and might be even higher yet in 2012. The faithful is abandoning the Republican party in droves, they are brain dead, hateful, lying, without a new idea from any of them. They are splintering into two camps now and might even be more than two by election time. God, Gays, Guns, Abortion, are not going to play well when you are out of work, homeless, hungry and desperate. It will take a lot more than just promises too. It might even take a truly new party to step up and win the day. This much I think you can bet on it won’t be anybody on Doctor Krauthimmers list.

Pretty scary stuff.

PILOT OR PIZZA DELIVERY

October 13, 2009

Let’s investigate these two jobs.  The pilot works long hours and is away from home alot.  The salary could be as low as $17000/year.  The pizza delivery boy makes more money , is home more often, and works as many hours as he wants.  NO pilot wants his children to be pilots , a once well paid , proud profession has been reduced to pizza delivery status.  Capt Sulli, of watch me land this hog in the Hudson fame , testified before congress that his salary had been cut by 40% and his retirement destroyed. A story repeated over and ove again as blue collar craft jobs have been shipped to lower wage countries.

The one thing difficult for me to understand is that a lot of job like pilot were union members, why did they not just in mass walk off the job , all hands, no exceptions.   They could have seen to it that no pilot would walk across the picket lines with whatever means necessary.  No company  , particularly airlines could take a complete shutdown for long.  Why was this not done?  Is my big question.

Michael Moore was on a plane recently and a stewardess handed him a note from the pilot asking him to come to the cockpit after they landed.  What they wanted was to show him letters from their company and to tell them of their plight.  Mike said he already knew about it and their story had a big part in his new movie “Capitalism , A love story”  had they heard it was.  Of course they hadn’t because MSM has featured Mike and not in a good light. So  there is the best reason to see his latest movie.

A story repeated way too often in the USA today.  For 30 years our politicians and our companies have been bent on destroying the middle class and removing most means of supporting that life style.  They have been pretty successful at this and are about to achieve their goals.  They have destroyed regulation of financial markets and built financial time bombs that have been blowing up for years , building up to the final boom which we are about to see.

It’s not new , it’s all happened before, with the same results.  The problem is different this time.  We face critical shortages in most raw materials and particularly oil. With that black gold being severely limited in the near future  a recovery to our old level of life style will be impossible.  There are a lot of changes we will have to make but the timing is not too bad.  A lot of us still have the skills of old time crafts , we will teach those who can’t , we will continue , just on a different level..  It won’t be all that bad.  No Twitter, NO Facebook, NO TV, NO cellphones  .  I can live with that.

THE OTHER ECONOMIC CRISIS (maybe not)

October 11, 2009

A  piece posted of the Washington’s  blog the other day quoted a lot of supposed experts saying our aging demographics would put us in an unfavorable position for growth in the future.  The more bodies you have in the prime spending age will determine your future  growth . The article points to India and Brazil as the future growth leaders purely on their demographics.

Now the MAYBE NOT part of the story are my own thoughts on future growth.  I believe we are entering a time when growth will not be possible due to limited resources of all raw materials,  with declining oil supplies being the most pressing of all.  The time frame of the demographic story is carried out to 2050 well into the down slope of oil production. To be considering growth at this point in our history is like wearing blinders.  The myth of growth forever should be clear to all by now,  we will be looking at sustainability instead.

My thinking is a country such as ours with an older population will still have locked up in our ageing bones the knowledge and skills to put into practice and teach other how to do will be of great value to our country.  Having a large youthful population will not provide the skill sets needed to survive in the future.  Believe me it won’t be Twitter knowledge.

Why these thinkers would want to bring up the Demographic crisis at this point in time blows my mind.  Before we can even think about this future problem we have to survive the crisis we already have.  The economic crisis will force us along the road to sustainability because we will not have a choice.  You can already see the shift of some production to a local model (Farmers Markets) are a prime example and the shit hasn’t hit the fan yet.  In the past week or so you have seen more and more talk about the dollar loosing it’s status as a world currency and it will happen and probably sooner than later.  Just this one change in world business will force us to once again manufacture things in this country for the cost of oil will double and shipping and flying stuff if will make it way to expensive so that a local manufacturer will be able to compete.  With the aid of tariffs we will rebuild our industry to a new energy efficient , repairable, long lasting machines as we have done in the past.

It feels good to be able to be positive about the future and understanding that it will be different is a big part of getting there.  The immediate times will be tough, maybe 10 years tough, but in the end we will be a better nation.

Gerald Celente is his autumn forecast predicts most of the above will happen mostly because of the collaspe of world economic meltdown.  Celente points out that in times past America was #1 in quality of life, education, health, income, upward mobility and was the most egalitarian and most envied nation in the world.  In 2009 we no longer score as # 1 , we are not even in the top ten.

When we were #1 the following was true.

  1. Main street, not Wall street was the role model.
  2. Blue collar workers worked at jobs that gave them middle class incomes
  3. Mom and Pops ran their own shops not as clerks at Walmart
  4. Family Farms not Factory farms fed America
  5. Americans ate real food , not Frankenfood
  6. Qualtiy counted not just the bottom line
  7. a tightly knit community spirit

To get back to the America of old we will have to change the way we think about a lot of things.

The list above provides a simple list of things you can start to head for now.  There are a few things we will have to have to make any of this possible:

  1. We must keep the electric grid hot at all costs.  The only was that is possible without oil and coal is with nuclear power.  If this source is blocke we are dead meat. You cannot make a case for a decent life without them.
  2. Adequate water supplies.  A lot of the country is in dire straights for water supplies, the sources are being depleted rapidly and cannot be replace quickly if at all.  We have started to reprocess waste water and pumping it to aquifers but have found out that a lot of the chemicals we put into our bodies end up in the waste water and are not removed by current processes.  We need a lot more storage of the rains that fall on us and now runoff into the sea.
  3. Corporate farms will disappear when oil and fertilizers get too expensive , we will need a lot more farmers of the old style.
  4. Skills we will need a lot more craftsmen to build and repair the equipment of the future, skills we have outsourced in the last 30 years.

We must remember “WE DID IT BEFORE AND WE CAN DO IT AGAIN”  .  We can start now .

THE TIGER’S MARKETPLACE

THE BEST ECONOMIC STIMULUS MONEY CAN’T BUY

September 27, 2009

We can argue till were blue in the face the in and outs of health care reform as I have done on this blog for months .  There is nothing left to say but there is one display left to show you.  The cost savings of doing something is displayed by the Center for Economic Policy Reasearch Health Care Budget Calculator .  The beginning graph shows where health care costs will go if we do nothing (yellow line) where it will go if we select a low cost method for health care (blue line) now select Canada a red line will appear on the graph showing health care costs decreasing over time to an actual budget surplus by 2080 using a Canadian style system.  Now even a dumb shit can see doing damn near anything other than what we are doing is probably the only way to bring the country back to fiscal solvency.    Of course I know that doesn’t matter to some they have their principles , unfortunately they originate in their butt.

THE EVEN THOUGHS & THE TWO HEADED SNAKE

September 26, 2009

In the last post I mentioned that some of the Future Forecaster I follow have been predicting violence in the streets and some have said we are in for a  Second American Revolution.  Listen to Fox News Judge Napolitano interview Gerald Celente on of my Future Forecasters.

The judge rips off a string of Even thoughs that the Bush Administration left us with he makes that Obama has continued most of these programs.  Celente and the Judge hang the Clinton, Bush and Obama administrations with the same rope and they are not wrong.

The important thing about this interview is that Celente lays out where we have been and where we are headed in the clearest voice I have ever heard.  He calls our present congress a Two Headed Snake and that describes it to a tea party (pun intended).  It’s plain to any that are paying attention they don’t even know were out here and who can blame them , there’s so much money to be banked they don’t have time for us.  Oh sure, were made to feel good because we can send email and make phone calls to them as a means of getting our voices heard. What they have not told you is the email machines go straight to the shitcan and the phone calls are answered by the drive through fast food folks in their spare time.

Celente says we are already in the beginning stages of the Second American Revolution and sites the Tea Bag events as evidence , which I am not ready to admit were a grassroot movement (they were funded and drives by the right wing money)  .  I do however believe they have woken the sleeping giant and have in fact started somehthing they cannot control.  They will be eaten by the Mongoose of Common Sense in the end.
