I’M STUMPED

I hate to not have an answer to a problem or a question and generally can come up with some kind of answer.  This time I have no answer as to why certain things in the Health Care doings of the country today defies logic.

I got a phone call today from my fishing partner (who when we worked together for the Bureau ) had a reputation of being the ones to call on health care carrier selection.  Mind you , this is in the day when us government employees had up to 300 choices of carriers and it was tough to choose.  Today PPO’s and HMO’s added together there are only 11.  I can hear you now screaming lucky bastards what are you crying about.

Here’s the problem.  The call from another ole time operator saying that he had been with Blue Cross for a lot of years and now his long time doctor will no longer take Blue Cross.  A couple of years back my carrier took one of our two hospitals off their PPO list because the hospital wouldn’t accept their low ball payments for care.  I called the hospital and the Chief negotiator herself told me what had happened.  GEHA made an initial low ball offer and the hospital replied with a counter and suggested a negotiation, the company just never replied and took them off the PPO list.

Recently when we were searching for a new GP we were turned down several times because the doctor did not take Medicare.  The other night I found out there are 17 states where nobody takes Medicare.  The reason for turn down is they say the compensation is too low.

So the question is:  IF THE GOVERNMENT RUN MEDICARE (LET’S NOT EVEN TALK ABOUT MEDICAID) SYSTEM PAYS SO LITTLE THAT DOCTORS NATION WIDE ARE STARTING TO TURN IT DOWN AND AT THE SAME TIME INSURANCE COMPANIES ARE CONTINUE TO LOWER PAYMENTS TO THE POINT DOCTORS WON’T TAKE THEM WHAT ARE WE THE PATIENTS TO DO?

I use myself as a perfect example.  I have Medicare A and B, GEHA a FEHB employer sponsored plan, and also I am covered by Tri Care for Life provided by my Navy retirement.  Big deal, not really, the way things are going since Medicare is always the Primary Provider that shoots down a lot of doctors,  so having all the other policies does me no good.   So if I with all my coverage still cannot not get service what in the hell do people who only have Medicare do?? or for that matter if you only have Blue Cross and know you cannot get taken on by any other company because of a pre-existing condition, you go on a desperate search to find  doc that will take your insurance, wanna bet how good they are?

The obvious answer to the problem is that Free Market economics does not work to provide proper service to us the only remaining answer is to get them out-of-the-way (out of business) and go to a system every other industrial country has.  Socialism , you bet your butt it is, but would I care what you call it if I can get care. You know the answer to that one.  Hell no I don’t care what you call just get out of the door.

Fifteen states?? Verrry Interrresting. And people think the US doesn’t have a health care Problem?? Yikes!!

On the finance channel they will finish a 3 day series today about a woman who has a knee problem which would cost $100,000 for the operation here in the USA. The same operation in a Shanghai specialty hospital is about $40,000. Reason stated was less liability costs and a bit lower labor costs.
Oh, the replacement knee part is made in Indiana. At least we still can do something.
My brother in law had a tooth removed, gum scrapped, medicine and follow up treatment for $45 USD. Try to get a tooth X-rayed for just that!
Yes, the US health care needs Change.

Soooo, with this info we can assume the “Public Option” incl in the Demo version of HCare for all would be as or even less effective than Medicare??
The decline of medicare is well documented to way back.
Seems to point to the fact that med personel are way to expensive. The politicos [Rep & Dems] have been using medicare cut pmts to say this. Insread, they should just take on the AMA, Etc. instead of the ins industry. One windmill none of the ChknShts are willing to risk!!

To Larry: How many languages would I have to learn the phrase “SO SORRY, YOUR GOING TO DIE” in. If liability costs are the difference isn’t that easy to fix. Oh I forgot you have to fight the trial lawyers who have almost as much money as the insurance companies.

To Jon: Medicare services for me have been great, doctors whine they don’t get enough money for their services but how would you or I really know. When you look up average earning the least make $150K not counting all the tax write off, goodies from the pill companies etc. Get rid of the insurance companies and we could give the docs a big raise.

Here’s what we do. Since not of these rat bastard ankle biters seem inclined to oppose the wars we’re in, let’s draft all of them … and give them free health care and a college education for serving. Semper Fi!

(I can get away with that because I was in the Navy, and the Marines would be nothing without the Navy.)
